Composition: Each capsule contains Angelica polymorpha powder 500mg.
Pharmacological classification: Category D Western Herbal Medicine
Pharmacological action: 21.13 Hormones, Others
Indications: Herbal medicine that assists in the treatment of premenstrual tension, menstrual cycle irregularities and menstrual pain. Assists in supporting the circulation and female reproductive system. Relieves rheumatism, chronic pain and muscle cramps. Assist in improving peripheral circulation.
Contra-indications: Do not use Dong quai when pregnant or breastfeeding.
Dong quai should not be used by persons on any blood thinning or platelet inhibiting drugs.
Avoid taking Dong quai in any hormone-sensitive conditions such as breast cancer, uterine cancer, ovarian cancer, endometriosis, or uterine fibroids.
Warnings: Not to be taken by persons on Warfarin or other anti-coagulant drugs
Persons with bleeding disorders must avoid taking Dong quai.
People with protein–S deficiency must avoid taking Dong quai.
Avoid long term use as some constituents can be carcinogenic.
Surgery: stop taking Dong quai 2 weeks before any surgery.
Interactions: Dong quai contains coumarin derivatives with blood thinning properties which prevents platelet clot formation and should not be used together with following drugs:
aspirin, clopidogrel (Plavix), diclofenac (Voltaren, Cataflam, others), ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, others), naproxen (Anaprox, Naprosyn, others), dalteparin (Fragmin), enoxaparin (Lovenox), heparin, warfarin (Coumadin), and others.
Pregnancy and lactation: Dong quai should not be taken during pregnancy or when breast feeding.
Dosage and directions for use: Take one to two capsules two to three times daily, or as prescribed by a healthcare practitioner.
Do ensure that your condition has been diagnosed by a practitioner before taking Dong quai.
Should premenstrual tension not improve within 4 weeks, please consult your practitioner. Should menstrual pain and irregularities not improve within 8 weeks, please consult your practitioner.
Side-effects and special precautions: Caution is advised regarding possible photosensitivity reactions because of furanocoumarin constituents. Avoid sun exposure when taking Dong quai.
When any bruising noticed discuss with a practitioner Take note warnings and contra-indications.
Known symptoms of over dosage and particulars of its treatment: Although rare, high doses may cause some woman to experience abdominal bloating, diarrhoea or a change in menstrual flow and cycle.
